After nearly three decades in practice, and with much thought and reflection, I have made the decision to retire from Grand Traverse Internists and Family Practice. For many professional and personal reasons, I believe it is the right time to begin a new chapter in my life.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your physician. I am deeply appreciative of the trust you have given me and the opportunity to support you in your health journey. Caring for you and your families has been one of the most meaningful aspects of my career, and I will always carry that with me.
As I step away from practice, I want to wish each of you continued good health and happiness in the years ahead. To assist in this transition, I am pleased to share that family practitioners Jeanne Kohler, D.O. and Jason Schreiber, D.O. are welcoming new patients into their practices. You can learn more about them by visiting our practice website. In addition, you may contact the Munson Physician Referral line at 231-935-5886 to inquire about other physicians in the area who are currently accepting new patients.
Please also know that Amy and I will continue to be available through December for any scheduled appointments or to help address other acute issues as needed.

Phone/Web Message Policy
Effective January 1st, 2024
To all patients of Grand Traverse Internal and Family Medicine:
In recent years Grand Traverse Internal and Family Medicine has faced an unprecedented challenge of being inundated by an overwhelming volume of phone messages and web messages. The influx of communication has proven to be excessively time-consuming and takes away from direct patient care. This situation has reached an unsustainable threshold for the providers and staff. For years we have answered these messages free of charge, but the current volume of calls makes this practice unsustainable as well.
We fully understand that patients want timely guidance and reassurance. However, many messages left are truly non urgent and can wait for a scheduled office visit. Moving forward we ask that you judiciously use the patient portal and nurse message lines. For inquiries that necessitate medical decision making we will be requiring a telemedicine visit or an in-office appointment. This policy change will involve associated charges reflecting the time and expertise provided by the nurse/physician.
